Not the usual tripp that you get from the green, shrooms have something magical more subtle and profound. It’s very subjective, though; this ride is not for everyone! Since fear feeds fear, you have to avoid going down that spiral, or else there won’t be anything magical about this ride.
Let’s explore the how and ‘where.’
All credit goes to one man named Sahağun, who spent nearly 50 years in Mexico (New Spain) carrying out his research in 1526. As a result, we learned about teonanacatl, “God’s Flesh,” the sacred mushrooms of Mesoamerica that were earlier used in religious and healing rituals.
Next comes Albert Hofmann, a chemist at Sandoz Pharmaceuticals. He first consumed 2.4 grams himself to feel it and then separated the chemical components of these sacred mushrooms to identify what was actually causing the magic.… Like all of us, he also made his friends consume separate chemicals, just as acid is done on paper! The reason is that he used the paper chromatography technique for separation. And from there came the name “Psilocybin.”
But how does it work in our body?
To answer that, we must first understand the serotonergic pathway, a crucial part of your brain’s communication network, especially for mood, sleep, appetite, and learning. Simply put, serotonin, a neurotransmitter that spreads joy and good vibes, stimulates the receptor in this pathway. Thus, keeping it balanced is important for feeling good and functioning well every day. And psilocybin specifically stimulates 5-HT2A serotonin receptors and indirectly stimulates dopamine (feel-good hormone).
So, how do people consume it? By people, I mean those who don’t need it but do it for recreational purposes anyway.
Experts (peddlers) suggest boiling them in water, like making green tea, and then drinking it since the taste is not very pleasant for direct consumption. But little do these experts know mushrooms are like sponges. They absorb water and become rubbery. So, google how to clean them for consumption and not boil them.
But how much to consume, the amount?
In a review published by Medical School Hannover, 12–20 mg taken orally produces a well-controllable altered state of consciousness marked by the enhanced ability for introspection and altered hypnagogic experience and dreams. But again, local experts suggest,
“Broo, take 1 gram per person, and you’ll have the best time of your life.”
What kind of best time are we talking here?
Do you remember going to those illusionary mirror rooms in theme parks where reflections look stretched, squished, or distorted? It is same experience. Colors look brighter, the body becomes relaxed, the senses get augmented & much more. More importantly, your environment and mental state matter a lot. Another study by Nkadimeng indicates dose-dependent analgesic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties (Species: Psilocybe natalensis). So, be wise and choose consciously since not all highs are good, but all are definitely addictive.
P.S. A Commonly found variant in Indian streets is ‘Zedi Mind Fuck.’
